Connecting and supporting the humanitarian shelter community responding to settlement and reconstruction needs after conflicts and disasters with resources and training
Emerging as a design researcher/academic who specialises in sustainability issues for design, I am currently writing a doctoral thesis at the University of Technology Sydney about the practical and psychological role of designs in refugee experiences. Field-work for this thesis was conducted in Timor Leste (2007).
My main contact to designers involved with humanitarian responses is a member of Architects Without Frontiers (Australia). I am also a long standing board member of the Society for Responsible Design (SRD).
Wide Experience in Civil & Building construction & site supervision.
Qualified Carpenter & Builder. Plumbing,sanitation & water supply experience. Emergency&Transitional Shelter & Watsan experience in Indonesia, East Timor, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Solomon Islands, Papua N Guinea, Cambodia, remote Australia and Antarctica.
Remote area helicopter operations experience & rapid needs assessments.
Emergency relief and emergency shelter operations. Early recovery, and related Livelihoods. Extreme Cold climate work experience. Logistics & transport experience.
Have completed IFRC FACT, shelter technical and shelter cluster coordinator training and been deployed in all three roles.
Background of construction followed by development and humanitarian deployment. Very strong interest in strategy and in beneficiary driven recovery.
