Exploring key changes and developments in post-disaster settlement, shelter and housing, 1982-2006

OCHA_KeyChangesAndDevelopmentsPostDisasterSettlement.pdf.jpg

This scoping study explores key changes and developments in post-disaster settlement, shelter and housing between 1982 and 2006, to inform the revision of 'Shelter after Disaster: Guidelines for Assistance' (UNDRO, 1982). The Guidelines will be revised as a collaboration between Shelter Centre and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN/OCHA). The guidelines will be republished by UN/OCHA in 2008. The project is part of the Shelter Centre programme for sector support. Progress in the revision will be presented every six months to the Shelter Meeting, a forum organised by Shelter Centre for the sector, open to humanitarian organisations involved in the transitional settlement and shelter of populations affected by natural disasters and conflict.
