Transitional shelters – Eight designs
This publication has been produced to rapidly respond to the need for transitional shelter solutions in emergencies in providing a “menu” of engineered, quantified and costed solutions drawn upon existing models already used in the field by the Movement. This menu would cover a variety of different contexts and climates, with practical guidance on how each solution could or should be amended to meet the requirements of a specific emergency.
As the document highlights, providing a defined shelter “product” such as those described is but one of several means of meeting shelter and settlement needs after disaster. National Societies contributing content and insight towards this initiative included: American Red Cross, Australian Red Cross, Bangladesh Red Cross, Belgian Red Cross, British Red Cross, Canadian Red Cross, Finnish Red Cross, French Red Cross, Haitian Red Cross, Italian Red Cross, Myanmar Red Cross, Pelang Merah Indonesia, Pakistan Red Crescent, Peru Red Cross, Spanish Red Cross, Swedish Red Cross, Swiss Red Cross, Vietnam Red Cross.
Although comprising solutions developed by National Societies, this publication is clearly of interest to the wider shelter sector.
