Assessment of human rights issues in the immediate aftermath of the Boxing Day tsunami. Meetings in Sri Lanka and Thailand assessed the specific situations in these countries; they were particularly timely, coming at the transition between emergency response and reconstruction.
Concerns include access to assistance, discrimination in aid provision, enforced relocation, sexual and gender-based violence, recruitment of children into fighting forces, loss of documentation, safe and voluntary return or resettlement, and issues of property restitution.
